Shabbat Manna Project
Palawan, Philippines
After many years as a private high school run by the Seventh-Day Adventist Church in the province, Palawan Adventist Academy has changed its name to Adventist College Palawan with its first enrollment in August 2025. Of the sixty students enrolled, thirty are full-time working students.
The college’s working students program of 30-hours work/week enables a student to pay the tuition fee for the semester. The students work on campus facilities such as the farm, cafeteria, security, and other departments.
The Shabbat Manna Project is a ministry of compassion and rest, inspired by the biblical principle of Sabbath provision (Exodus 16). Sabbath is not merely a pause from labor — it is a weekly reminder that God provides, even when we stop working. Just as the Lord supplied double manna before the Sabbath so Israel could rest in His sufficiency, this ministry affirms that the fullness of God’s care does not depend on human effort. It seeks to honor the sacred rhythm of rest and worship by providing free meals to working students from Friday sunset supper to Sabbath sunset dinner, affirming that God’s grace sustains even when we pause from labor.
Many working students bear daily burdens that often eclipse their spiritual experience. Food
preparation, budgeting, and fatigue can distract from worship and fellowship. This ministry frees them from these concerns even for a few meals, so they may delight in God’s presence with peace and joy. This meal is more than nourishment. It is a celebration of God’s goodness. A tangible declaration that “the Lord will provide.”“You will eat and be satisfied, and you will bless the Lord your God for the good land He has given you.” — Deuteronomy 8:10
By experiencing Sabbath as abundance rather than restriction, students learn to trust God fully,
rejoicing that in Christ, there is enough — enough grace, enough provision, enough rest, enough love. Therefore, this initiative supports students in honoring God’s Holy Day, cultivating a rhythm of gratitude, faith, and belonging within the ACP community.
